We are pleased to announce that again this year, we will contribute £500 towards Tanzania Small Scale Miners' Day and that we will continue to support activities of the Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA). The 2008 Miners Day will be held on the 5th of May in Dar-es-Salaam.

Tanzania Women Miners Association The mining industry in Tanzania is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy. Apart from large scale mining, the small scale mining is rapidly gaining significance. It is currently estimated to employ about one million Tanzanians and is an important activity in the fight against poverty especially in rural areas.

TAWOMA has been particularly active in promoting and engaging with small scale miners. The main objectives or the Miners Day are

To create awareness of the mineral resources potential of Tanzania to Tanzanians;
To sensitise small scale miners, dealers and service providers and other Tanzanian stake holders to unite and work together for the sustainable development of Tanzania;
To give an opportunity to small scale miners and mineral dealers in Tanzania to interact and network with large scale mining companies operating in the country with a view to exchange experience in mining, processing and marketing of minerals and finished products;
To give an opportunity to large scale mining companies in Tanzania to show to the public what they are doing in Tanzania as part of their social corporate responsibilities.
