Christopher Welch

Chairman

Christopher Welch is a Mining Analyst with Pareto Securities. He holds a MSc in International Business Management, and a BSc (Hons) in Geology from University College London, and an Advanced Certificate in Economics from Birkbeck University. Before joining Pareto Securities, Christopher spent four years with Bloomsbury Minerals Economics as a copper analyst, prior to which he worked as a geologist at a diamond mine in Lesotho.

Nick

Nick O'Reilly

Treasurer

Nick is Principal Geologist and Director of Mining Analyst Consulting Ltd, a Senior Consultant for SRK Exploration Services and an advisory board member of a number of private explorers. Nick provides his corporate and financial sector clients with geological and exploration advice, valuations, audit and due diligence services including independent reporting, programme design and project management. Prior to founding Mining Analyst Consulting in 2005, Nick spent time working as a Management Consultant covering Financial Markets and as an Exploration Geologist in South America for Rio Tinto. Nick holds a MSc. in Mineral Project Appraisal from the Royal School of Mines (Imperial College) and a BSc(Hons) in Applied Geology from the University of Leicester.  He has a keen interest in British mining history, being actively involved with the Peak District Mines Historical Society.

Dr Toby Straus

Toby Strauss is the founder of Merlyn Consulting Ltd and is a Consultant Mining Advisor for Grant Thornton (UK) LLP. He holds a PhD and MSc in Economic Geology from Rhodes University, South Africa, and is accredited as a Chartered Geologist and European Geologist. Before founding Merlyn Consulting he worked for almost 20 years in the junior sector in both exploration and producing companies, mainly in Fennoscandia.

John McGloin

John is Executive Chairman of Amara Mining Plc. He joined the Group on 3 April 2012 as an Executive Director. A geologist and graduate of Camborne School of Mines, Mr McGloin worked for many years in Africa within the mining industry before moving into consultancy. Mr McGloin joined Arbuthnot Banking Group following 4 years at Evolution Securities as their mining analyst. Over the years, Mr McGloin has acted for many mining companies including African Platinum, Randgold Resources, Avocet Mining, European Goldfields and Titanium Resources Group. His most recent position was Head of Mining at Collins Stewart which he held from July 2010 to the time he joined Amara Mining.

John won the Association of Mining Analysts' Analyst of the Year Award in 2011.

Tommy Horton

Tommy Horton

Tommy graduated from Manchester University in 2007 with a Masters in Engineering. He spent three years working in the mining industry in North America for consultancies AMEC and Fluor before moving into the city in 2010. Tommy was a corporate broker with RFC Ambrian for three years and in September 2013 moved to MineARC to head up their Business Development for Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Harriet Hunnable

Harriet has worked in the commodities markets for over twenty years, spending the last five years heading up CME Group’s precious metals offering from London, having been appointed in January 2011 as part of the Chicago-based exchange’s plans to expand into Europe and Asia-Pacific. She successfully expanded the exchange’s metals franchise to include a comprehensive global offering of base and ferrous metal contracts, metallurgical coal and freight contracts. More recently she was the business driver for the Group’s move into benchmarks and in 2014 setting up a new business in benchmark administration. Harriet is on the Board of CME Benchmarks Europe and serves on the Silver Oversight Committee. Harriet Hunnable previously worked for Macquarie Bank’s commodities business and was director of precious metals sales at UBS Warburg.

Not only is her experience greatly valued within the exchange, but she is a regular speaker at industry conferences and frequently appears as a commentator across broadcast and the trade media, providing views on markets and wider industry topics. She was named one of the Financial News 100 Most Influential Women in Finance in 2012 & 2014 and WIM 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining 2013.Harrietsupports Maggies charity and is a Barts Hospital Ambassador.

Emily Fenton

Emily is a mining and metals specialist within Tavistock’s natural resources practice. She advises AIM, ASX, FTSE, JSE, NSX, TSX listed and private companies providing strategic communications advice. She has extensive experience in IPOs, M&A activity (having advised on plus £1bn of transactions), crisis management as well as financial calendar work. Emily joined Tavistock in January 2011, prior to this she spent three years at a top five AIM and leading natural resources PR agency based in the City of London. Emily has also gained the Mining for Bankers Certificate from the Imperial College of London and holds a degree in Geography from Newcastle University.

Elizabeth Johnson

Elizabeth is a mining corporate broking specialist with over 10 years experience in the sector most recently at FinnCap where she acted for a number of clients including Petra Diamonds, Pan African Resources, African Diamonds, Lucara Diamonds and Kiwara. Prior to this she ran the resources sales team at Objective Capital, a research boutique covering mining companies both listed (TSX/ASX/AIM) and private.  Elizabeth holds a degree in mathematics from Edinburgh University.
